⚬ Description ⚬

This is an archival print of the original collage. Fits standard 8” x 10” frame.
The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.

Nothing provokes the artistic sensibility like grief. This is a highly personal piece of artwork as it represents multiple losses Selina experienced from losing her dad to her grandmother. Grief and love are two sides of the same coin and grief can only exist where love lived first.

The choice of skull and the bottom flower depicts the feeling of losing someone you loved, a feeling that part of you died with your loved one. In the face of significant loss, we don’t “recover” from grief, we cope with it. In time, our feelings will revive and we slowly rejuvenate, symbolized by the top two flowers.

When you lose a loved one you care so immensely about, you just aren’t the same person anymore. You’ve been impacted in a way that will forever change you, not necessarily worse, or bad, just different. Much like the leaf in this collage, the one that isn’t the same as the others; we too will be different. The experience of presence in absence will lead to a wiser and different you.
