This is an archival print of the original collage. Fits standard 11” x 14” frame.
The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.
Are we inherently evil or good? Her clever incorporation of pop culture elements, careful choice and detailed placement of imagery allowed the work to provoke thoughts and unravel multiple layers of meaning that echo with one another.
Selina believes humans, though imperfect, are essentially kind and good-natured. That is probably one of the reasons why people, including Selina herself, love Iron Man so much. Regardless of Iron Man’s sarcasm or arrogance, his kindness and caring qualities always shine through.
He is one of the few superheros who has no superpower and he is constantly battling with heart issues to keep shrapnel from entering his heart. All he can depend on is his Iron Man suit to help him fly through battles and a fearless nature.
Regardless of the complications, he is always ready to fight and risk his life for anyone (symbolized with the heart cutout that is placed in his hand, creating an illusion of him holding a grenade that he is ready to throw). The careful choice of a heart image not only amplifies the message that one can be so selfless and have the biggest heart ever, but also reminds us that he will always be in our heart. The planes and poppies further portray the unspoken message that sacrifice was noble for the greater good.
