This is an archival print of the original collage. Fits standard 11” x 14” frame.
The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.
Technology is changing our relationship with nature as we know it, but nature remains a critical role regardless of how evolved our society is. Accelerated rates of change in our highly technological societies do not stop our desire to connect with nature. The more screen time Selina experienced, the stronger her desire is for seeking out and engaging with wild nature. The tension between screen time and green time act as an action-reaction pair of forces.
Selina's ideal vision is that we employ technological nature as a bonus on actual nature, not as its substitute. She collaged this vision with the use of delicate flower cutouts representing the internal wiring of a droid. The presentation and placement of them create an optical illusion of a jellyfish. Incorporation of humming birds at the top with seahorse and starfish at the bottom brings the idea of “above water” and “below water”; combining sci-fi, terrestrial animals, marine life all in one. This collage is re-enchanting the world with the harmony of the technology and nature.
