The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.
I have always been in love with vintage images including pin-ups. This collage showcases the energy and cuteness of the pinup model. The playful setting, her facial expression, and the hat cutout image floating above her head match perfectly to create an illusion of gravity and her dropping into a drink.
This collage is a true representation of what a playful use of movement is. The composition includes positioning the colourful plant that brings your eyes from the top to bottom, which allows your eyes naturally discover the pin up and the drinking glass. The clever use of orientation of the mushroom and pin up create upward movement to bring your eyes across the image once again. The balance of colours (especially the green, red and yellow in the plant, lemon, lime and shoes) create a harmony visually. The contrast of the black and white from the drinking glass image, which also appears to be a pot planter, added extra texture and layer to this collage.
