⚬ Description ⚬
This is an archival print of the original collage. Fits standard 11” x 14” frame.
The original piece was cut and pasted by hand from collection of used and vintage books.
Kobe was once asked “between 8 and 24, which number would you choose to retire” and He said No. 24 is more challenging, things are harder to do, especially physically. He said if he is forced to pick one number to retire, he would go for 24 because of that reason. I hope as we all age, we would be someone who wants to keep challenging ourselves and improving; and be someone who would overcome tough times.
That’s pretty much like his shoes logo which represented a sword in a sheath. “The sword is the raw talent,” and the raw talent is Kobe himself. Hence, the placement of Kobe overlapping with the sword blade. While the sheath stands for the effort one puts into developing his talent which is here symbolized with the flower motif growing around the blade. It is the dedication and commitment that keeps someone moving forward and overcoming challenges. I hope whatever we do, we are committed to it.
The fully blooming flowers also symbolized Kobe’s success, his record of winning three championships in No. 8 (purple) and two championships in No. 24 (yellow). Even tho the “Mamba" has one less championship than Jordan's six (depicted with the top left flower bud that’s not fully bloomed) resilience is the willingness to not quit, and to stay determined to make a difference.
