Inspired collage
Instead of relying on magic to get by, the film expertly proves that there is no substitute for hard work. Kiki was working hard, making money doing what she loves. While her determination, and always-go-above-and-beyond mentality are impressive, they eventually begin to fray her drive and energy, spinning a cycle all too familiar with those who have suffered from burnout.
I couldn’t help myself but to make this collage to represents hard-work (symbolized by the wheat grass in this collage) but also, reminding ones to stay true to themselves, have fun while learning or at work and at all times (depicted by Kiki enjoying the scenery and watching birds while flying in this collage). And sometimes, we might just have to go through hurdles to come to maturity (with dragon fly being a symbol of change and self realization). In Japan, dragonflies are revered and respected, also being symbolic of courage and success. To the Japanese, the dragonfly (Tombo) is an important cultural symbol and was believed to be a harbinger of rich harvests. Even when you work hard to “harvest”, you still need to rest; just like the birds and dragonflies, they rest on various plants and basking in the sun to absorb heat. Hope you find joy and rest in life regardless of where you are and what you do.
